Quick answers about CBYD services, E-Tickets, and system use.
General Service Information
Who must notify Call Before You Dig?
Anyone using power or mechanized equipment who disturbs the earth on or below the surface must submit a location request through CBYD.
If I am hand digging, am I required to notify CBYD?
No, but it’s strongly recommended. Utility lines and cables can be damaged with a spade, shovel, fence post digger, or pick.
If I hire someone to excavate, do I have to notify CBYD?
The excavator actually performing the digging is responsible for submitting a location request.
How long is my location request valid?
Requests are valid for 30 days from the day notice is provided, not the excavation start date.
What is Call Before You Dig?
CBYD is a nonprofit clearinghouse that connects excavators with utilities and ensures underground facilities are marked.
When do I need a private utility locator?
Contact a private locator for non-public lines such as sewer, irrigation, propane, pool, or secondary electric lines.
What holiday closings does the CBYD call center observe?
The call center is closed on major holidays, but emergency requests are still accepted by phone.
